AT&T to launch 5G for consumers using low-band 850 MHz spectrum

AT&T will be using 850 MHz spectrum for its low-band 5G rollout, according to an AT&T spokesperson

AT&T’s 5G service will roll out in coming weeks in parts of the following markets: Indianapolis; Pittsburgh; Providence, Rhode Island; Rochester, New York; and San Diego.

Verizon completes DSS data call with Ericsson, Qualcomm

Verizon and its partners Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies conducted proof-of-concept demonstration of dynamic spectrum sharing, which allows 5G service to run on multiple spectrum bands, including those historically reserved for LTE services.

Verizon has said it plans to deploy DSS next year, leveraging the technology inside stadiums and entertainment arenas.

Huawei launches 2 new 5G smartphones- View 30 & View 30 Pro

The V30 is based on HiSilicon’s Kirin 990 SoC accompanied by the Balong 5000 5G modem. By contrast, the V30 Pro version features HiSilicon’s Kirin 990 5G application processor with an integrated 5G modem.

Realme X50 teaser confirms the company’s first 5G smartphone launch

Realme has started teasing its first 5G-enabled smartphone, called the Realme X50

Orange launches operator-branded 5G smartphone

Orange has launched what it describes as the industry’s first operator-branded 5G smartphone in Europe, tested on its 5G networks for early adopters.

The Neva Jet smartphone will initially be available on existing networks 3G and 4G networks in select markets, starting with Poland. It will then be available on Orange’s commercial 5G networks across Europe as they go live, starting with Romania in 2019 and followed by its other European markets in 2020.

Germany opens door to private 5G networks with 3.7-3.8GHz licenses

The Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy announced that businesses can apply to the ministry for the exclusive right to use some of the 100MHz of 3.7-3.8GHz spectrum in their networks, based on frequency fees established in Germany’s Federal Law Gazette.

Deutsche Telekom has protested the impact of the policies, which it claims have driven up prices for public spectrum while reducing corporate dependence on its networks

S Korea to double 5G spectrum allocation by 2026

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT announced it would make an additional 2,680MHz of spectrum available by the end of the year 2026, putting the total amount of 5G spectrum in the South Korean market at over 5,320MHz.

South Korean operators have racked up more than 2.5 million 5G subscribers in the months since launch, with SK becoming the first operator in the world to achieve 1 million 5G subscribers.

France will not exclude China’s Huawei from 5G rollout: minister

French minister announced that “France will not follow the United States and exclude China’s Huawei from its next-generation 5G network, but will have the power to vet all equipment makers for any potential security threat”

Ericsson to invest over $230 million in Brazil to build new 5G assembly line

Ericsson plans to invest 1 billion reais ($238.30 million) in Brazil to add a new assembly line dedicated to 5th generation technology (5G) for its Latin American operations

The investment will be made between 2020 and 2025 and includes the cost of hiring and acquisition of machinery, among other expenses

Cisco Patent Would Secure 5G Networks with a Blockchain

Cisco has won a patent detailing how it could leverage blockchain to secure the data in 5G telecommunication networks.

The company submitted a patent application in June 2018 for a blockchain platform that can be natively integrated in wireless networks, according to a Nov. 26 filing from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
